Grade 7 - Design Process Results

To all 7th graders in Sections 1,2,3,4:

Testing is going well with the Stage Project. Here are some of the stages that have already been tested.










Any student who is behind schedule must sign up for Raider Time in order for them to finish with enough time left in the quarter to work on the CO2 cars.

Hour Of Code comes to SMS

During the Week of Dec 9th through the 12th all students will be taking part in Hour of Code. 



Here is a short description from the Hour of Code website: 

“The 'Hour of Code™' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.”

Mr. Falcon's Per Grade Projects: 

6th - Will be working on their Scratch Maze Project

7th  - Will be on the Hour Of Code site. 

8th - Will be working on their Robotics Projects using the Lego EV3 software. 

Mr. Medeiros' Projects: 

All grades will be using the Hour of Code site.

Grade 6 - Scratch programming is in full swing

The 6th grade students have started working on their Scratch Programming. 


The projects are: 
Blinking Letter
Restaurant Sign
Movement
Contact Reactions
Maze Game
Random Events (optional)



Any student needing additional help should speak with Mr. Falcon to sign up for Raider Time.

Grade 8 - Robotics project 1 is underway.

To all section 1-2-3-4 8th grade students.


All 8th graders should have a working robot and should be working to complete all four driving challenges.

Grade 7 - Design Process - Stage Project has started

 

To all section 1-2-3-4 7th graders. The stage project is underway. All students should be working to complete the 8 parts of the Stage Project. All grading milestones are in ASPEN. 

Those steps are:

1. Identifying the Need or Problem
2. Research the Need or Problem
3. Develop possible solutions
4. Selecting the Best Solution.
5. Construct a Prototype 
6. Test and Evaluate the Solution
7. Communicate the Solution
8. Redesign

6th Grade - Full Scale Drawings have started



To all 6th grade students in sections 1 through 4

Full Scale drawings have begun. All students are working toward completing all three full scale drawings found in their googleclassroom page. 



Any student who believes they need extra help or more time to complete the drawings are strongly encouraged to sign up for Raider Time to obtain the help they need ASAP.

Grade 7 - CoderZ projects are now underway

To all 7th grade students in section 1,2,3,4

CoderZ has provided us Rev 2.0 of their program and all students should be making their way through the projects. Unfortunately there are issues with how the completion and handling of moving from one Lesson to another is handled. The Eng/Tech dept have been in touch with CoderZ and are working to eliminate these issues. We have found a way to get around this limitation and have provided support to all students who have experienced this known bug.


If you have any issues, please tell your teacher ASAP so we can work with CoderZ to get them fixed. If you need extra help completing any of the lessons all students should make use of their Raider Time to obtain the help they need.

Grade 8 - Micro:BIT programming is underway.

To all 8th Grade students in Section 1.2.3 and 4

The Micro:Bit programming projects are underway. All students should be using their knowledge from the Screen Capture project to collect their completed challenges for grading within a googleDOC.

6th Grade - Measuring in Inches has now started


To all 6th grades classes in sections 1,2,3,4:


Project 1 - Measuring in Inches has begun. Students shall complete the measuring worksheets -> 1", 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", 1/16"

Each sheet adds the next level of accuracy and shows the students how to properly obtain the correct measurement. After all worksheets have been completed properly the students will be taking a test. 


If you have any questions be sure to get them answered as soon as possible.

7th Grade - Google Apps and Drive project now due.

Google Apps and Network Project are now due

To all 7th Grade classes in section 1,2,3,4:

The project that had the Students learning how to use some of the Google App features and the network drive is now due. All students should have submitted their projects via email by now. 

If you have any questions please get them answered ASAP. 

8th Grade - Screen Capture Project now due

To all 8th graders in Section 1,2,3,4

The Screen Capture project is now Due. 


The project which has students collect 10 images from the internet has begun. The students will capture them using the proper keystrokes, then using Paint save them onto their pc. They will then import them into a new Google Doc, and  label them with the proper titles. All students will be given 2 days to complete this project.

















Any student who needs extra help or has any questions should speak with the teacher ASAP to get the help you need during Raider Time.

Grade 7 - Finishing up their C02 dragsters

To all EVEN cycle 7th graders.

The final push to finish the CO2 dragsters is on. Many students were working none stop to design, sand, clean, paint and finally put the hardware on and do their rolling test. Here are some pictures showing just some of the students hard at work.





If you are one of the many 7th graders who have finished your car be sure to pick it up prior to the start of summer break.

Grade 8 - Robotics Sumo Competition Winner

The finals for the EVEN cycle produced a winner after some exciting matches. That winner then met the winner from the ODD cycle. After 5 hard fought matches the winner for the 8th grade was....

Grade 8 - Robotic Sumo Competition - June 3 - 7

Robotics Sumo Competition is Next Week

To all  EVEN section 8th grade students.

The Robotics Sumo Competition will occur next week. June 3 - 7. The competition will have each section compete to determine a winner. Then each winner will compete in the EVEN finals to meet the ODD section winner.

Grade 6 - Introduction to programming using Scratch has begun.

To all EVEN section 6th graders:

Accounts have been given out to all 6th graders and we have begun to learn how to program using Scratch.

Reminder: The teacher does not have access to your password. If you lose your password the teacher can only reset your account back to the original default password. From there you can change it back to your personal choice.

Grade 6 - Full Scale Drawings

To All Even section students

All 6th graders should now be working towards finishing their 3 full scale drawings.



Please keep in mind that all drawings need to be completed before the end of the term. If you have any questions, concerns or would like additional time and/or help, be sure to see your teacher during the Computer Lab to get all the help you are asking for.

Grade 8 - Intro to Programming using Scratch has begun.

To All EVEN section 8th grade students:


Introduction to Programming using Scratch has begun with it's first project.

The areas we will be concentrating on are:

-Looping

-Conditionals

-Variables

-Expressions

-Functions (time permitted)

Upon successful completion of the above projects students will be tasked with creating their own scrolling Game as a final project for this unit.

Grade 7 - Design Process - Stage Project has started
