During the Week of Dec 9th through the 12th all students will be taking part in Hour of Code.
Here is a short description from the Hour of Code website:
“The 'Hour of Code™' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.”
Mr. Falcon's Per Grade Projects:
6th - Will be working on their Scratch Maze Project
7th - Will be on the Hour Of Code site.
8th - Will be working on their Robotics Projects using the Lego EV3 software.
Mr. Medeiros' Projects:
All grades will be using the Hour of Code site.

Grade 6 - Introduction to programming using Scratch has begun.
To all EVEN section 6th graders:
Accounts have been given out to all 6th graders and we have begun to learn how to program using Scratch.
Reminder: The teacher does not have access to your password. If you lose your password the teacher can only reset your account back to the original default password. From there you can change it back to your personal choice.

Grade 8 - Intro to Programming using Scratch has begun.
To All EVEN section 8th grade students:
Introduction to Programming using Scratch has begun with it's first project.
The areas we will be concentrating on are:
-Looping
-Conditionals
-Variables
-Expressions
-Functions (time permitted)
Upon successful completion of the above projects students will be tasked with creating their own scrolling Game as a final project for this unit.

Hour of Code Week
To all students:
The Engineering and Technology Department will be providing the opportunity to every student at Somerset Middle School to learn Computer Science by taking part in an Hour Of Code.

Grade 8 - Scratch will replace Micro:Bit
To all ODD section 8th grade classes
Due to shipping issues outside of our control the 8th grade classes will not use the Micro:Bit for their programming segment. Simply put the order placed in early July of this year has been delayed multiple times. Instead we will revert back to what we used last year, Scratch Programming, to cover the curriculum
If any student has any questions regarding this change feel free to speak with the teacher.

Grade 6 - Scratch programming is in full swing

Robotics Week 8th Grade Activities
The 8th graders began National robotics week with a quick inventory of their Lego Mindstorm boxes. Once completed they started building their first robot to complete a series of driving tests.
